Quick summary
Bespoke jewellery is designed around you rather than chosen from a case. The process moves from a conversation, to a design worked up and shown to you, to the workshop, and finally to a fitting. We visualise your design within 24 hours of that first conversation, so you can see the piece before it exists.
- Start with a conversation, in our Chichester showroom, at your home, or remotely.
- Your design is visualised within 24 hours, so you can see the piece before it is made.
- Stones you already own can be reset or remodelled into the new piece.
- You approve the design before the work begins.
- Consultations are no-obligation, and pieces come with 30-day returns.
The bespoke jewellery design process moves from a conversation about what you want, to a design worked up and shown to you, to the workshop, and finally to a fitting. We visualise your design within 24 hours of that first conversation, so you can see the piece before it exists.
We make engagement rings, wedding bands, and heirloom pieces given a second life this way. The process is the same for all of them.
What happens in the first conversation?
We ask what the piece is for, who it is for, and what you want it to feel like. That is usually enough to start. You do not need drawings, a specification, or a decision about the stone.
You can have that conversation in our showroom on South Street, at home if it is easier to talk where the jewellery already lives, or remotely if you are not local. There is no obligation to buy.
Bring anything that helps us see what you mean: a photograph, a piece you already wear, an inherited ring in a drawer, or a plain description of something you once saw and liked.
How does an idea become a design?
We work up the design in our 3D design studio rather than on paper. Your piece is visualised within 24 hours, and you see it as a rendered object rather than a sketch, which makes the proportions easier to judge.
Then we change it. A stone can be turned, a shoulder narrowed, a setting lowered so a ring sits comfortably next to one you already wear. This back-and-forth is the part that decides whether the finished piece feels like yours.
If you would rather start by exploring on your own, you can use the online ring builder first and bring what you make to the conversation. More on bespoke jewellery design and how we work.
Which decisions will you be asked to make?
| Decision | What it changes |
|---|---|
| The stone | Shape, size and character. We work with lab-grown diamonds as well as natural stones, and the choice is yours to make. |
| The metal | Gold or platinum. Platinum is denser and heavier in the hand; gold has a warmer tone. |
| The setting | How the stone is held. A bezel wraps it and sits low; claws lift it and let more light reach it. |
| The profile and width | How the band looks and how it sits beside the rings you already wear. |
| The finish | High polish, matte, or a softer brushed surface. |
You do not have to arrive with answers. Part of our job is to explain what each choice does to the piece, and to say when one of them will not work.
What if you want to use stones you already own?
It might be an inherited ring with a stone worth keeping, a grandmother's brooch that nobody wears, or a setting that has worn thin over the years.
We reset and remodel those pieces rather than starting from nothing. The stone stays the same, the metal is usually reworked or replaced, and the result is something you will actually wear. We also buy gold from customers, which is worth knowing if there is old metal sitting unused.
See jewellery remodelling for how that works in practice.
A practical tip. If you are designing a piece around an inherited stone, bring the original setting with you even if it is damaged. The way it was held tells us how the stone has been treated, and that shapes what we can safely do next.
How is the piece made?
The piece is made at the bench: the stone set, the metal worked and finished, and the whole thing polished last. That final stage is where a good piece starts to look like one.
Repairs and remodelling are carried out by our craftspeople in our UK workshop. If a claw lifts or a shank wears, the work is done by people who know the piece. Our jewellery repair service covers that side.
What happens between approving the design and collecting it?
Once you are happy with the design, we confirm the details with you and the piece goes to the workshop. We set out what happens at each stage and how long it will take when we have agreed the design, because the answer depends on the piece rather than on a standard figure.
You will hear from us before the piece is finished, not only when it is ready.
A checklist for your first consultation
- Bring any stone, ring or piece of jewellery the new design has to work with.
- Know the ring size if you have it, though it is not essential.
- Bring photographs of anything you like, including things that are not jewellery.
- Think about how often you will wear it and what you do with your hands.
- Mention a date if there is one. It changes what we can sensibly plan.
- Ask about the alternatives, even the ones we have not suggested.
After you collect it
Pieces made through our bespoke service come with 30-day returns, so a decision made in the showroom is not final until you have lived with the piece for a while.
Wear it. If a question comes up later, ask us. That is a normal part of owning something made for you, not a complaint.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does bespoke jewellery take to make?
We confirm the timeline with you once the design is agreed, because it depends on the piece, the metal, and the work involved. Nothing is made until you have approved the design.
Do I need to know what I want before I come in?
No. You can arrive with a feeling rather than a specification, and the conversation is there to turn that into something we can draw. Bringing photographs or an existing piece helps, but it is not a requirement.
Can you use stones I already own?
Yes. We reset and remodel inherited and existing stones, and we can rework the metal or replace it. Bring the original setting with you if you have it.
Is there any obligation to buy?
No. Consultations in the showroom, at home, or remotely are no-obligation, and pieces made through our bespoke service come with 30-day returns.
