Frequently Asked Questions about Platinum Wedding Rings

Platinum is often called the "King of Metals" because of its superior durability and density.

It is naturally white, meaning it doesn't require plating like white gold, and it is significantly denser/heavier, giving it a luxurious feel on the finger. Because it is a pure metal (95%), it holds diamonds and gemstones more securely than any other metal, making it the ideal choice for a lifetime of wear.

All precious metals scratch, but Platinum behaves differently. When gold is scratched, microscopic bits of metal are lost.

When Platinum is scratched, the metal is merely displaced (moved aside) rather than lost. Over time, this creates a soft, satin-like finish known as a "patina," which many people love as it represents the passage of time.

However, if you prefer a high-shine finish, we can easily polish it back to brand-new condition at our Chichester workshop.

Yes, absolutely. Our Platinum is 95% pure (hallmarked 950), making it completely hypoallergenic. It is the perfect choice for clients with sensitive skin or nickel allergies who may find that lower-carat golds cause irritation over time.

While Platinum has a higher upfront cost due to its rarity and density, it can be more cost-effective in the long run. Unlike white gold, which requires re-plating with Rhodium every few years to maintain its colour, Platinum stays naturally white forever.

This means you save on maintenance costs over the lifetime of the ring.

We generally advise against this.

Platinum is significantly harder than gold. If you wear a Platinum wedding band next to a White Gold engagement ring, the Platinum will eventually wear down the gold ring where they touch. For the longevity of your set, we always recommend matching your metals—Platinum with Platinum.
